In my classroom, I believe in project-based STEAM learning. Students are engaged in authentic and meaningful activities. They are shown that there is an authentic audience that would benefit from their learning activities. Students are intrinsically motivated by the fact that what they are doing has value. I see this as an opportunity to harness student motivation and to further engage students in the learning process. In a STEAM curriculum, students work in cooperative learning environments that reinforces the idea that making mistakes and failure can be productive. Students can go at their own pace and skill level, this is beneficial to the Special Education as well as the English Language Learners that I have a high amount of in my classroom. This method supports the individual’s educational journey and promotes creative expression. Inspiring open-ended, creative exploration serves as a form of productive play and inquiry. It fosters a love for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. My purpose is to engage students to love school again like they did when they were younger and to create future STEAM teachers.
