We are all different! We have different looks, different interests, and our bodies work in different ways. Many students have a hard time keeping still or sitting in the same position for long periods of time. It's difficult to stay engaged in learning while sitting in an uncomfortable chair. These standing desks allow students to move while they think and wiggle while they learn. In my classroom, I encourage my students to make the best choices for their own learning. Choosing where they sit, what they work on, and how they demonstrate their knowledge gives my students the greatest opportunity for success. When students are not allowed to move or wiggle, they often become restless and fidgety. These students find their own creative ways to satisfy that need to move, and it often comes at the price of distracting or interfering with the learning of others. Standing desks allow these students an opportunity for natural movement, from standing and stretching their legs, to swinging their feet on the swing bars. Allow my students to get their restlessness out in a positive way to support the best learning environment possible.
