Money is a difficult concept for students with moderate to significant intellectual disabilities. Through operating a school store, students of ALL ranges of ability will be able to participate and practice skills such as counting money, making change, performing calculations. Drinks will be stored in the beverage refrigerator. The cash box will assist with the sorting of money in a realistic manner to a store cash register. As our students approach potential customers, speech skills are practiced; greeting customers, answering questions, offering information. Storing our inventory in a cabinet allows students to sort, and keep track of specific store items. The neat organization will make taking inventory more manageable. The fact that we seek to be mobile, using a utility cart will enable students with physical therapy needs to build upon their mobility endurance and actively participate in our project.
