One thing I've learned as I enter my 25th year of teaching is that middle school students just keep proving that they can be engaged, sophisticated learners even when faced with typical developmental and social challenges. The surest way to know they're growing is through rigorous academic activities that foster personal and world connections to others' struggles and realities. My teaching partners and I do this through integrated units that demand organization, an important skill across all disciplines. With organization, students are able to create a demanding space to think, read, write, and communicate thoughtfully and critically. As we loop with our students into 7th grade, we are excited to offer a mix of integrated thematic topics that will speak to them in unique ways.
