When students have access to books at their reading level, they become stronger readers and are more successful at learning to read. By receiving the leveled library for my third graders, my students who are not yet able to read grade level material, will have something to read at sustained silent reading time, which is free choice reading time in my classroom. Giving students access to books on their reading level, builds confidence, and an interest in reading that may not have existed before. I want my students to become lifelong readers. My hope is that by giving them choices of what to read, will enable them to unlock the joys of reading and to connect to books.
