Our students love using their hands for projects, academics and communicating. We make books, flash cards, picture exchange communication systems, token boards, specially adaptive writing pages and special projects to learn about different cultures and holidays. Using color ink makes our materials more stimulating and keeping for students. We use the ink for our interactive materials, visuals for communication, calming choices and expected behaviors. Our students with visual challenges need this contract of colors and increase of size to clearly view the materials. Each student might need individualized materials to make meaning to them. We need to print various projects to customize the materials to student's interest areas. Sometimes our students may get upset and rip apart their projects but we use this as a teachable moment and do not penalize them for having emotions. We teach them to fix mistakes and this can mean reprint materials.
