Graphing calculators are essential to mathematical study in high school. Unfortunately, cost can be prohibitive for many of our students. Not having a graphing calculator can dramatically impact their learning. Much of our content in upper level high school math requires the aid of a calculator. While all of the skills can be done without calculator use, the complexity of the task must be lowered to accommodate which limits the experiences of my students. As an educator, I can also have students do more data analysis and project-based learning experiences because I’ll know that they ALL have the tools at their fingertips necessary for the advanced calculations.
