This will be my first year teaching and now that the school year is over, it's time to set up my classroom! My mentor teacher last year used flexible seating in her classroom, so I was able to see flexible seating in action and love the benefits it brings students! It allows students to choose a spot to sit in where they feel they can work best, whether it's in the floor or at a table. I would love to be able to provide my first graders with multiple flexible seating options. I want my classroom to be a fun and inviting place for my first graders to learn in. It's hard for first graders to sit still for long periods of time and flexible seating offers my first graders a chance to move, bounce, rock, or wiggle based on their flexible seating of choice. Flexible seating allows students to find a spot they are comfortable in which helps them focus on what they are doing. It also encourages collaboration as they are able to move their flexible seating spots to sit with their partner or team when working in groups. For this project, I would like to provide my first graders with yoga balls, wobble stools, and Flex-space comfy floor seats all of which will allow my first graders to be comfortable and move as needed. My first graders will be able to choose these seating options during whole group instruction, group work, and independent work in the classroom. I will be so grateful to any donations made to my project and can't wait to provide my students with a fun place to learn! Thank you so much and I am so excited for the adventures to come in first grade!
