Our students are involved in "Museum Projects" that include original art renderings of the natural world or products of their imaginations. Inclusion of 3D components often make a mundane topic come alive for the viewer. Technology like 3D scanners will allow students to explore more (and in some cases, more extravagant) creative development. Students can "amplify" their methods or recreate earlier works in new ways (kind of a "creative mutation"). A handcrafted model can be scanned and edited in such a way that it can become more exciting to the viewer. Use of this technology is also a great job skill!
