Global Read Aloud happens in October each year. Books are voted on and chosen by students and teachers around the world. This year's selection is The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatraman. I will be reading this book aloud to them while they follow along. This is the third year my students will be participating. The one thing I realized after my students read the books was that they were so invested in the book that they read that they would have loved to have owned it and encouraged others to read it. My goal is to have students take ownership of the books once we have finished GRA2019. There is no need to worry if the books could be used the next year because they choose new titles each year. Sharing books with students around the world is exciting, but so is sharing books within our own school. The other books on the list are the Global Read Aloud books from ages kindergarten through teen. The picture books are going to be assigned to my sixth graders and they will rotate classrooms each week and read aloud to kids in pre-k through third grade. Each group will design an activity to go with the books. At the end of Global Read Aloud, the books will be donated to the participating teachers for their classroom or donated to our media center. The teen book, early readers, and middle grade books will stay on my shelf to help cover the vast reading levels that we have each year.
