Technology serves as a purposeful medium to engage our students, despite their differences in grade level as well as social emotional functioning. The use of iPads will provide an opportunity for students to individually engage in social emotional learning (SEL) through various online resources utilized by the mental health team. Along with other members of the mental health team, we are raising funds to purchase a set of 12 iPads, cases, and charges that will be utilized by all 120 of our K-12 students in various individual, small group, and classroom lessons. I am asking for donations for five of those iPads! With these iPads, each student will be able to access online tools which foster independence and engagement through technology. Students are provided a multitude of lessons where they are able to better understand their needs by learning their own triggers and stressors related to their emotional and/or behavioral disorder. Some examples of the programming our team plans on using with the iPads include mindfulness apps, a curriculum that teaches SEL through hip-hop, and engaging videos that encourage active movement and proprioception which improves behavior and attention. Through social and emotional learning, students are able to soar to new heights and achieve their desired goals! The students are eager to learn through technology!
