Through the Design Thinking process, I am able to allow kids to have their voices heard by others in the community, and this empowers them. Since our students come from all over San Diego county, the changes and impacts that my students have are far-reaching. The solutions that my students develop to the problem they research not only serves them well, it also has far-reaching effects in their individual communities. In November, we asked scholars one question: What problems do you see in society that you are passionate about? Scholars shared their fears, concern and passions; from that discussion they began to question and question some more until they developed a challenging question. One challenging question is How can we keep young woman (13-18) safe in the streets of Downtown, SD? Scholars did research, conducted surveys and worked on finding solutions to this problem they are so passionate about. The materials requested are to make 20 safety bags for homeless teenagers.
