This year, I plan on taking community-based Instruction to the next level. Throughout their educational careers, my students have received instruction in developing appropriate skills for the community. This instruction has allowed the class to visit many places such as animal shelters and environmental centers. My students would now like to give back to the community by making No Sew Fleece blankets for a local animal shelter. This project will not only enhance our community skills by becoming involved in the community, but it will also coincide with other instruction and therapy the students receive in school (i.e. Occupational Therapy and Social Skills training). Most importantly, the class will be giving back to the community by helping animals in need.
