Promoting a positive school environment requires the inclusion of positive imagery throughout the school. Students have begun to explore public art and design their own projects to be potentially placed throughout the school. One such project is the painting of the bathroom stalls. Collaboratively, students have started to design positive messages and imagery that would be painted in both the girl's and boy's bathrooms. As the designs are created, students will work to refine them through critiques, peer discussions, and conversations with staff; culminating in a collaborative design that will be on view for the entire school to see. The materials needed are pivotal to the creation of the design. As my students engage in artistic practices it is critical that they do so in the proper and safe ways. The needed materials for this project primarily include enamel paints and proper enamel primer so that the design lasts on our desired "canvas". Foam and detail brushes are to be used in conjunction with larger brushes that are already owned; while the use of dust masks ensure student safety when working and prepping the surfaces. The creation of this work will become a lasting component of our school and ultimately be a stepping stone in providing positive imagery and a sense of artistic drive throughout our community.
