I hope to teach my students the idea that written words matter; that THEIR words matter. That by taking the time and effort to express thankfulness, gratitude, empathy, and compassion through thoughtful messages, they will understand the power of their kind actions. Hand-written notes have become a lost art. Through lessons and modeling, my students will learn why writing notes to others is important, and when it is appropriate to send notes. Next they will learn how to craft their messages beyond a one sentence "thank you for the gift." Finally, they will learn how to properly address an envelope and send it off in the mail. Through donations, I will establish a well stocked writing area within my classroom. Here, students will find an assortment of note cards for all occasions, as well as an array of colorful pens to use to write their messages. Students will always have access to this area and the supplies there, even after they leave their 7th grade year.
