Our school does not have a school library, but rather each teacher creates a class-library. Being a first-year teacher, I have asked my students to nominate books they would love to find in our class library. Providing a library for an entire grade level means including diverse authors, reading levels, genres, etc. These books fill the bookshelves that line our walls, creating an atmosphere that sparks curiosity, brings a sense of calm and enables students to read on various topics. Our class library is to provide opportunities for students to learn, relate and inspire; which is why every novel has been requested by my students. Every day, students have nearly thirty minutes to read and process their thoughts on reading. Students comment on how much they love our class library- how they enjoy reading on the carpet and how they forget they are at school. With these new books, our class library will be more adequately stocked to encourage readers of all genres, of all levels. Finding books that not only interest them, but have varying degrees of difficulty and diverse content, students will be appropriately challenged when reading. Your donation fulfills the wish of an enthusiastic young reader to read more books.
