Students have difficulty with math because it seems like it doesn't apply to real life. With these projects students will apply their understanding of mathematics to make a boat float, keep a doll from drowning, and send an army man to infinity and beyond. The activities that I have planned to complete in the classroom with these materials will engage students and demonstrate just how important math really is. Since I have started utilizing these activities in the classroom, I have seen students become more engaged in the learning process. I no longer have to answer the question of when they are going to use math!
