As a 4th-grade writing teacher, I conference with my students twice a week. At the moment, I have five round tables, that take up a lot of space, and one small-group table. When I conference with students, I can see how they struggle to navigate around the room. Nonetheless, I like having tables because they promote a sense of community and students can share ideas and work together. However, if I can get rid of my small group table and trade in my round tables for four kidney tables, my students will enjoy our classroom even more. They will be grouped according to need, and I will be more accessible.
