My students come from poor economic backgrounds but they still have dreams and want to be successful. 75% of the students in my building get free or reduced lunch and more than one third are ESL learners. All the students in our district receive free breakfast. Many of my students get food bags on Fridays filled with food for the weekend. Our district is resilient, going through 2 floods, 1 tornado, and the loss of a veteran teacher in a school accident in the last year. We stick together and strive to help others.
