Right now, we are at a pinnacle crossroads. Students of color need to see themselves in texts (not just during a designated month). What better way to validate our students of color, than with a more diverse classroom library? My library is the focal point of my classroom. Students can sit on pillows or cushions and enjoy a good book. Unfortunately, it is limited to either very old classics or what I have been able to purchase on my own. For this project, I have chosen a list of books to help diversify my classroom library to encourage a love of reading for all of my students. How beautiful would it be that each and every one of my students see his or her reflection throughout the pages of a book? Not only will my students begin to see themselves in books, but it will also help to increase their love of independent reading!
