With the purchase of "Red Scarf Girl" books, my students will be able to experience a first-hand account of a girl who was in the Red Guard during the Cultural Revolution. Middle schoolers often struggle with understanding things that occurred in history that do not apply to them. With the addition of this novel in my class, I will be able to transform my teaching and change student lives through learning about the lasting impact of communism in China. We will be reading this novel interactively in class as well as completing assignments that go along with the text. Having this text will allow each student in my class to have a copy where they can examine text examples and dive deeper into the context of the book.
