I have many students with sensory needs in my 4th grade classroom. I also love running centers so I can work with smaller amounts of students and focus on that specific group's needs. Currently, at the "teacher's center", when students come to my table to work with me, I have 5 large, dated, heavy, and bulky stools that were once used in the library. These stools are so large that there is barely any room to squeeze all 5 kids in at the table. Many times, it is hard for students to focus because someone is touching their leg or there is barely room for them at the table. Also, these stools can't by pushed in under the table so it is difficult to maneuver around them even when we are not doing centers. I also have a few students who find it difficult to sit still for large amounts of time (even for a 15 minute center). I included three stability wobble cushions to travel with them throughout the day to help them stay focused. PLEASE help make my dream of a table where all students can sit and learn together without feeling squished or distracted because of their large, heavy, and outdated chairs, a reality!
