The purpose of this project is to provide my students with a variety of fine motor, visual motor, sensory motor, and visual perceptual toys and materials needed in order to cater to each individual student’s needs appropriately. These items will help develop their coordination skills, strengthen in-hand manipulation, and assist with properly developing their webbed space. The goal of developing these skills is to become as independent as possible in their educational environment. As a school based occupational therapist, many of my school’s “treatment” rooms consist of a table, a few chairs, some puzzles, some blocks, paper and crayons. The materials in my room do not provide my students with the adequate tools needed to help develop these necessary skills. The items on this wish list will greatly help and encourage active participation, exploration and engagement in the therapeutic activities my students need. They will be thrilled to “play” with new toys all while receiving the therapeutic intervention that they deserve. The iPad and Apple Pencil will provide new and innovative ways to engage in writing activities and use apps that help develop the skills they need help with all while making it a fun experience.
