The incorporation of a new novel set, "Fish in a Tree", is centered on the concept of building a positive classroom community. Based on similar novel such as "Wonder" and "Out of my Mind", "Fish in a Tree" is based on a student that does not "fit" in with her classmates. With sixth grade being a year of change, my students will be able to see the main character from their own point of view. With the addition of this new novel set to my classroom, all 64 of my English students will learn the necessary skills in building relationships, handling conflict, problem-solving, and overall becoming a better classmate.
