Working in a Autism classroom requires many different tools and zones to help my children feel secure and focused. Alternative seating is designed to help children feel more comfortable in their environment. Wobble seats help with jitters, bouncing helps with sensory and motor skills, and bean bags are great for helping students feel surrounded and secure. These students each have a unique set of personality traits that leave them often moving, standing, or sitting on some sort of cushion. We also have 4 broken regular chairs in our room that often frustrated them. My goal is to create a space where my students feel empowered and where their differences are celebrated.
