A new listening center will help promote literacy by allowing my students to listen to books that are too hard for them to read by themselves. They will be able to choose from among 3 books with recordings on tape or CD. As they listen to a fluent reader read, their own fluency, comprehension, language, and vocabulary will improve. They will also learn that reading is enjoyable. This will inspire them to become even better readers. Studies show that students who are better readers are more successful in school and stay in school longer. I hope to send my students on to the next grades prepared to be successful.
