A token economy is a system of positive reinforcement that can increase the frequency of desired behaviors. Reinforcement is one of the best ways to change your child's behavior because it places attention on the behaviors you want to see more often. A token economy works much the same way as the world economy. Our students will earn classroom currency for completing tasks or displaying desired behaviors. They can then then exchange this currency for something of value in our classroom store. Each student will have individual goals, but will all participate in earning in the classroom. Earning reinforcement that has a fair amount of choice helps teachers and students move away from the idea of students being good or bad and helps students see the value in successfully meeting their goals.
