These books will provide my ESL students opportunities to fully engage in literacy activities while learning to read, write, and communicate in English. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have previewed these texts with students and allowed them to compile personal lists. I also chose low level, illustrated books in a series. This was done intentionally to transition students into high interest, low readability English versions of texts as students' reading skills develop. With these new books, my ESL students will be able to choose books they can read and understand, which will help them enjoy independent reading time and feel more connected and engaged in their English classrooms. Most importantly, my ESL students will be able to choose and share books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. My students have already shown an strong interest in reading Spanish versions of text. Unfortunately, my resources are running low. This project will help enrich their experiences with reading in the years to come.
