I am a life skills teacher at Academy Park High School located in Sharon Hill, Pa. At Academy Park, 80% of students are from low income families. My class consists of 10 students in the age range of 18 to 21 years old. All my students are amazing. They come to school eager to learn new skills, even though it could take most of the year to master them. Part of the curriculum is to have students learn independent living skills in an apartment. At the apartment, my students learn various skills; how to maintain a home through cleaning and decorating (hanging window treatments, wall art) and preparing lunch. They love going there daily and they feel like it is a second home. Unfortunately, items at our apartment are not working properly due to wear and tear. To maximize learning in our apartment it would be beneficial to have these items replaced.
