The materials I am requesting in this project will help foster literacy, math foundational skills, and independence through the participation in various centers activities. Currently, my class participates in many teacher-led and whole-group activities, but I would like to provide them with an opportunity to both build independence and social skills by completing engaging and hands-on center activities independently and in small collaborative groups. The various materials in my cart will allow them to practice the skills learned in the whole-group lessons and to take ownership of their own learning. The phonics file folder games will allow my English language learners and my emerging readers to build a foundation that will help guide them towards basic deciding and comprehension of beginning texts. My goal is to provide them with high quality materials that will immerse them in the English language and expose them to new vocabulary words, both through printed words and visuals. The reading centers kits will help foster independence and excitement for all of my students towards learning the skills that we cover together in our second grade curriculum, such as main idea, text features, and point of view. The math file folders and centers will help to foster basic number sense and prepare my students to solve higher level problems in a way that is both meaningful and fun. The floor cushions and flex seats will provide my students with a comfortable and inviting space to complete the activities. Because we must rotate rooms so often, these portable materials will allow me to create consistency and comfort in whichever classroom my students find themselves in. As a whole, I believe that these materials will build even more excitement and love towards learning and create an environment that will help each of my students reach their fullest potential.
