I teach in Utah and our state office of education adopted the Next Generation Science Standards. The VR goggles will allow students to use 21st century technology (aka 360 degree vision) to take virtual field trips using Google's 360 degree apps or 360 degree videos on YouTube with the goggles. Students will experience virtual phenomena (volcanic eruptions, atmospheric layers, different biomes, ocean waves, etc) that cannot be experienced in real time. For example, there is one video used in my class that takes the students on a virtual trip through the layers of the atmosphere. The narration during the video allows students to see and hear temperature and altitude change as they move through the different layers of the atmosphere. Earth Science topics are space, plate tectonics, hydrosphere, atmosphere, geosphere, and environmental issues.
