Many students on the autistic spectrum have challenges with their sensory system. One or more senses can be over or under reactive to stimulation. Sensory issues often times can be the underlying issue that present as behaviors such as frustration, crying, confusion, zoning out, aggression or injuries to self. I have seen a great increase in my students needs for sensory stimulation. I have a few sensory items and strategies in the class, but I feel the need for the students to get up out of their seats and have an opportunity to bounce on a trampoline and get some of that energy out would help them better attend to a lesson and improve academic focus.
