My students are bright, inquisitive, loving and eager to learn. The class, in a high-poverty school, consists of 8-10 Special Education students with varying disabilities which range from limitations in motor, speech, and auditory/visual processing and includes children with a diagnosis of autism, developmental delay, spina bifida, and ADHD. Many of the children have physical disabilities and they are often on the floor crawling on the rug. They also have a high rate of asthma and their immune systems are compromised. The students are 3-5 years old and are learning basic pre-academic skills to prepare them for kindergarten level academics. Much of that learning is done during circle time which is done on the rug each day. During this time, students manipulate learning materials that are presented to them on the rug. Providing a clean and simple rug is vital as the children are easily distractible and are susceptible
