The term “self-contained classroom” refers to a classroom, where a special education teacher provides instruction for all academics to a group of specific students. I will be spending each day with a group of wonderful students who love learning and learn differently than the general education mold. In this classroom, I get to teach the child in the way in which they learn best! The curriculum items and the academic manipulatives that will be provided by this DonorsChoose.org project will allow my students to experience learning through hands-on activities, learning centers, direct instruction, and individualized instruction to best meet the students academic needs. The sensory items such as the weighted vests and blankets, fidget items, and inflatable seat cushions encourages each students social and emotional well being by providing an outlet for movement or sensory input while they navigate their academics. My students love learning, they simply learn differently. This is an amazing group of children and I am excited to give them a safe, intentional, multi-modal environment so they can learn and be their best selves! They are worth it!
