My students with special needs do not learn social norms the way that most children do. Curriculum provided does not teach the skills that my students are working on, so we create curriculum and practical activities to teach the skills they need, like emotional recognition and regulation. Once students understand how to regulate their own emotions, they are able to maintain friendships and achieve a great deal more academically. In light of Distance Learning, my students need their own copies of social stories, interactive worksheets, and adapted books. We laminate books and worksheets for durability as well as repetition.
