My students have spent some time researching and talking about social issues that interest them. Some of the main discussion revolved around Black Lives Matter, global warming, pollution, and immigration. These issues are diverse and relevant to their lives. For this project, my students will create an image that expresses and advocates for their social issue and they will deconstruct it into a positive/negative shape drawing. This simplification will challenge them to create a visual with minimal detail that still expresses their message for change. We will then learn the process of silk-screening and turn each student's social justice positive/negative drawing into a t-shirt that they can wear to advocate for their cause using the duck canvas, paint, and frames.
