When all my students have calculators in their hands, we can all be moving forward in mathematical thinking and no one gets left behind. Having all students using the same type of calculator allows me to instruct them on key sequences and where to find the specific keys they need. My students have learned that calculators are helpful tools that they can turn to for help with accuracy and speed. If we get more problems done in class, then we learn more! My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they have the proper tools in hand, i.e. a scientific calculator!
