Nonfiction reading is a very large part of the fourth grade curriculum. My students do not come with a lot of background knowledge pertaining to the topics we research and discuss. We are in serious need of a much larger nonfiction reading library so that my students have the opportunity to be as successful as possible in all areas. Not only will these books provide my students with the background knowledge they so desperately need but it will also provide them with a wider selection of interesting topics. Kids are more likely to comprehend the information they are reading if it is something they are interested in.
