STEAM education is crucial to educate and prepare the next generation to be competitive in the global workforce as well as allowing them to create jobs and grow the economy. STEAM jobs are expected to grow by 16% in the US between 2014-2024. Currently, science and engineering earn more than double the income of the median job in the U.S. Unfortunately, math performance in US students is faltering and STEAM graduates are dropping out of their fields. We need to begin with improving STEAM education in our elementary schools in order to compete in the global technology race. The use of Dash Robots helps to develop critical thinking skills and is so much more than learning code. Dash offers an open-ended learning platform that makes tech knowledge simple and accessible, helping kids grow into confident creative architects. This is a hands on approach to learning that excites students and keeps them engaged. A few months ago, my students attended an assembly where they were able to interact with robots and learn how they worked. Their excitement lasted for weeks and they continue to ask more questions about robots often. I want to continue to foster their curiosity and build on this learning in the area of technology. As a S.T.E.A.M. school, I want to provide students with the opportunity to engage in this type of learning on a regular basis. Having these robots in the classroom will provide my students access to hands on engaging learning.
