Reading is essential for learning. All students should have easy access to books that are exciting and fun to read. Due to the COVID Pandemic, students do not have easy access to multiple copies of books to form much needed book clubs to help facilitate positive social interactions. It is essential for students to not only read books, but to also have the opportunity to talk about their books. This help solidify their understanding and comprehension of the book, but to also help nurture a love of reading through the much needed social interactions with their peer group, especially during this pandemic when most students are unable to see their closest friends on a regular basis or meet new people through the safe, classroom environment. If we receive these books, students will be able to choose books for virtual book clubs. They will have the opportunity to read chosen books within a group setting in order to talk about what they are reading and create a social setting that encourages a love for reading while also encouraging the much needed social interaction during our virtual learning. Talking about what we read is essential for building comprehension skills and a general love for literature. Please help me bring the joy of reading through the social experience of book clubs to all my students while they are staying safe and healthy in their remote/hybrid learning environments.
