I have the most incredible group of first graders in my urban classroom. Many of our families have recently immigrated to our country and as a result their children come to a land of possibilities from at times the most impossible of situations. Our school setting has a free and reduced lunch rate of 99%. The high level of poverty that my students enter the doors with may impact them physically, but they are determined and motivated learners. They inspire me to want to give them the world of knowledge and to establish an environment that meets their social and emotional needs. As in any room of 6 year olds it is an active learning environment, but my students face physical challenges that many children encounter as a result of circumstance. I feel my project request will help to meet their physical needs resulting in great academic achievement.
