Students need more access to non-fiction reading at a second grade level. Scholastic News provides weekly articles all year for students. Students are able to highlight important ideas in their article. The colorful photos in the magazine catch the students attention. These magazines provide seasonal social studies and science topics that second graders enjoy which will make learning more engaging. These topics lead to discussion and writing opportunities for the students. The magazine also provides comprehension check activities for the students plus access to online nonfiction videos and interactive games. Students can take their magazine home each week to show their parents what they learned in class.
