The materials I am requesting for my classroom will replace broken materials and enhance the learning that is taking place! We currently have dry erase boards in our classroom, but they are constantly being thrown out due to unsafe layers peeling off. These edges become very sharp and pose a safety issue. We aren't able to provide each student with a dry erase board and we use these daily at the carpet for math, phonics and sight word practice, as well as, completing assessments and papers around the classroom (out of seats). Who knew all it took was a simple scented marker to ignite a spark of engagement in my 5 and 6 year old students to write their sight words independently? It is amazing what simple, yet unique writing tools can do for a young child's mind. I would love to get more markers in my student's hands; regular and scented. White crayons will also make a perfect addition to our classroom. We use markers daily for our Morning Message. Students write portions of the message, find and circle sight words, and complete an activity at the bottom. Markers are also used in writing center and for art projects. I want to incorporate more literacy centers around scented markers and white crayons. These new centers will be sure to stimulate their minds, spark creativity and further their love of learning!
