While I would love for my students to be addicted to detailed and attentive reading, I know that it takes more to enable their learning. They often struggle with understanding when the content remains in blocks of text and need some help unraveling the complexities of the subject. With just some art supplies, my students are able to create memorable visual aids that map out their thinking and enable them to dive deeper into the text. They will use these supplies to create thinking maps, character diagrams, timelines, and powerful quote posters. Currently, we are subsisting off department shared charting paper and an old bucket of markers that appear to be older than the students themselves and pre-date my eight-year career.
