I was hired to bring the high school music program back to life. The program had suffered due to the budget cuts of the early 2000's, and has yet to recover fully. When I came on board two years ago, I took an instrument inventory and was shocked by what I found! Most of our instruments are over 20 years old! (One was closer to 50 years old!) They were in incredible disrepair and many of them were non-functioning. With my current budget, I cannot afford even one repair. I have been doing my best to self-repair and do maintenance on a number of the instruments, but it still does not meet our current need. In a most wonderful turn of events, I have a VERY large incoming freshman class in the fall of 2019, but I don't have the instruments to provide for my lower-income students. Music should be accessible for all! The instruments I have selected are instruments that would go straight into the hands of a student who, otherwise, would not be able to be a part of the music program.
