For students with learning disabilities math manipulatives are a powerful tool in helping them understand abstract concepts. If they can work from a concrete example to an abstract example they are far more likely to grasp new ideas and remember what they are learning. These manipulatives will make a huge difference for my students, helping them conceptualize and retain their understanding of new math concepts. Solving for a variable is an especially difficult abstract concept for them to learn. The algebra tiles, base ten blocks, and balances will help them visual what it means to solve for a variable and how to do it. Having multiple opportunities to practice and review new concepts is also vital to retaining new information. The algebra and fractions games will make that practice a lot more fun and motivate students to really master those concepts.
