Sketch Pads for Everyone!
Funded Jan 24, 2023Thank you so much for your donations. Leading up to the sketchbooks arriving, I think I was asked 5-10 times a day if they were going to get their new books. Since they have arrived, my students have used them nonstop.
I am looking around my room right now during our breakfast and "morning bins" time. Students have fun and engaging STEM bins on their tables, that they usually argue over who gets to use which materials. As I look around, half of my class is building while the other half is drawing quietly and sharing their pictures with friends.
When we go to recess I am asked if they can bring their sketchbooks. They love having access to a "real" sketchbook with good paper and something that is just theirs. They are practicing drawing people, cartoons, animals, and so much more.
The watercolor paper will be used throughout the year for art projects and the sharpies are a constantly beloved art material in our classroom. Thank you for bringing access to art and creativity to our third grade room!”

Funded Mar 14, 2021The students have LOVED reading Peter Pan this spring! Thank you for your support getting books into the hands of all of the third grade readers.
The students have learned about character traits, point of view and perspective, and writing summaries.
They are using Peter Pan to answer text-dependent questions, practicing the skill of citing evidence and writing full and thoughtful answers.
And, most importantly, we are using Peter Pan as a tool to think critically about literary classics. We have discussed stereotypes of women and indigenous people in the book and thought critically about how those stereotypes have changed, and how some still exist.
Thank you very much for your support- as always, my students wouldn't get the experiences they get without your help and we are all so grateful.”

Funded Aug 24, 2020Thank you for the donations for "zooming into third grade!" Your donations helped supply students with all the materials they need to be successful during remote learning: white boards, white board markers, erasers, baskets to keep their supplies organized, pencils, sharpeners, and more! Our students were so thrilled to receive their materials, especially their very own white boards and fidget toys!
Additionally, we have been able to purchase curriculum through teacherspayteachers.com that is appropriate for distance learning and is supporting our students growth in all content areas.
The third grade team, teachers and students alike, are so grateful for your support!
Thank you!”

Diverse Books for a Diverse Classroom!
Funded Aug 29, 2019First, let me say another big THANK YOU for your support. My students have loved reading these new books, both as a class and by themselves.
Recently I heard some of my students using the all too familiar "that's gay" in the classroom and on the recess yard. Thanks to your support I was able to go to the bookshelf and had a number of different books to read with my class to help start discussions around the words we use and LGBTQ inclusion.
While reading John Oliver's "A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo" my class decided to write letters to the "stink bug" to explain why it's important that anyone should be allowed to marry who they love. It was a powerful moment in third grade.
I apologize for the delay in pictures and letters. My students have been so engaged in their learning we need a few more weeks to get those out to our cherished donors!”

Funded Aug 7, 2019First of all let me start with a big THANK YOU. Your generosity has made this year run so smoothly. Everything from the extra books in the classroom to the magnetic push pins has made a significant impact on our classroom community.
In the pictures attached you'll see a number of things. You'll see the students utilizing the clipboard/whiteboards. Those have become a part of our daily routine with the whole class using them for math "number talks" so they can practice showing their work while solving math problems.
You'll also see how we've been utilizing the markers in our classroom. Not only do the students love them for art projects and drawing with their friends, I use them as a way to track the work students are doing in small groups. In their science "teams" each student is assigned a color so that I can see who is doing what work. Additionally, their work is bright and vibrant for all of their peers to see!
Our classroom is full: full of learning, community, and resources. Thank you!”

Morning Work? More Like Morning Fun!
Funded Mar 4, 2019Thank you so much for your donation to my project. My apologies for the delay in response! The school year just ended and I graduated an incredible group of 5th graders onto middle school, confident in their ability to work together and problem solve. Towards the end of the year I asked my students what they were the most proud of. Many of them talked about learning how to communicate, manage their emotions and problem solve. I attribute this incredible growth to the community my students built in their classroom, due, in part, to your contribution.
Starting the mornings off with the opportunity to collaborate, communicate, and just play together was invaluable. You can see in the photos the students smiling and laughing first thing in the morning, allowing us to create a positive and joyful environment for the day to come. You can also see them working hard on play dough creations, sturdy and colorful cup towers, designs on etch-a-sketches, and more.
Students created tic-tac-toe boards out of rubber bands and peg boards, had healthy competitions to build the tallest towers and longest chained, and learned the soothing powers of running play dough through ones hands. Thank you again. I am excited to use these materials for years to come and build on the foundation you gave me to create even more STEAM-based activities.”
