Our school has been around for many years. This is also true with the books we read at school. Many of them are tattered and worn or just outdated reading material for today's kids. There are so many fun and attention-grabbing new publications on the market that I believe will challenge our first-grade readers while holding their interest. First graders are reading chapter books at a much earlier time than ever before. Therefore, I have seen an increase in the amount of higher level reading material they require throughout their year in first grade. These books will be used for reading instruction at my small group reading table. Many first graders are enjoying literature circles and book club type, groups. They need to share the same book with their peers while holding their own copy. They also need to be able to reread a book at their own pace for fluency. This is why I have ordered several copies of each title.
