Having a special spot for read aloud time each day is my goal. This is a time for the teacher to model good reading strategies and fluency. Having grade level books, especially non-fiction books, plus a special spot to gather each day elevates this important time for both student and teacher. It is a time for students to practice listening skills, to bond together with their classmates for book discussions, to feel connected to there welcoming classroom and to learn about non-fiction subject areas that are sometimes overlooked with more emphasis on narrative style books. My hope is that this new rug and set of non-fiction books will boost our daily read aloud time to a time of immense joy and learning for both student and teacher.
