One of the best ways to increase engagement is to spark interest in the the lessons studied with interactive materials. The Early Language Activity Boxes and the Magnetic Descriptive Words Rods contain concrete items that students can manipulate to improve their mastery for vocabulary. Additionally the Hazard Mountain Inference Game, the Making Inferences Finding Evidence Kit and Understanding Idioms Teaching Cards will motivate and challenge students to explore and gain understanding of the nuances of figurative language. Games are a wonderful way to reinforce societal norms like following directions, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Many of my students have developmental delays and social, emotional and behavioral delays and struggle with playing games appropriately. It is imperative to have engaging opportunities to learn and practice the focus needed to succeed. The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game by Educational Insights, the Catch The Fox Game by Goliath, the Don’t Rock The Boat Skill & Action Balancing Game, and Pop Up Pirate will motivative my students and teach them the "turn-taking" and social skills that are necessary in all social contexts. These resources will help my students learn cooperative play, "turn- taking," vocabulary, and give them experience with figurative language.
